Focus on safe, potable water in Southwest and North Central zones of the country has received a major boost with the launch of the Access to Water and Water Quality Project by the Presidential Community Office.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (Southwest), Moremi Ojudu, disclosed this on Thursday at an interactive session with journalists in Abuja.
She confirmed that the Presidential Community Engagement Office, in partnership with Nestlé, OPS-WASH, ActionAid, and the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) had launched an Access to Water and Water Quality Project in the South-West and North-Central regions of the country.
According to her, this initiative will address water scarcity and contamination in communities like Agbara, Adedigba, Ilashe, Odan, Ilupeju, Ilaniro, Korogboji, and Totowu areas of the southwestern region.
She maintained that the areas would benefit from state-of-the-art, solar-powered boreholes and advanced water treatment facilities to ensure access to clean, safe drinking water.
“We are set to install state-of-the-art boreholes and water treatment facilities. As we align our efforts with the goals of the Renewed Hope Agenda to enhance water access and improve water quality in the communities, I look forward to the positive impact this initiative will have on our communities,” Ojudu said.
She noted that the project was part of the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sustainable development and improving the well-being of Nigerians.
Echoing similar sentiments, Dr. Nicholas Igwe from OPS-WASH praised the collaboration, highlighting the critical role of the government support in such initiatives.
