Premier League football returns to Lagos as Pillars edge closer to NPFL return

Lagos football lovers will once again experience premier league football after Sporting Lagos gained promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The Lagos side founded in 2022 had defeated Abeokuta Stormers 2-0 in the second game of the ongoing NNL Super 8 playoff at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba to secure a NPFL spot.

Meanwhile, Kano Pillars have edged closer to NPFL return after defeating hapless DMD FC by 2 goals to nil courtesy of a first-half strike from Mubarak Sanni and a second-half beauty from Abdullahi Haruna.

They will next meet rivals and neighbour’s Katsina United in the last match in the Northern Conference on Wednesday for a place in the final on Friday. Katsina United had earlier lost 2-1 to EFCC FC of Abuja in the second group game.

In another game, EFCC ended the unbeaten run of favourites and big money spenders, Katsina United in a match full of drama.

The game, which ended 2-1 in favour of the Abuja-based seed side was the first game of match day 2 of the play-off to determine the four teams that will move up to the Nigeria Premier League billed to commence in August.
