Several pregnant women were seen queuing alongside other numerous voters at Ojiagu Agbani, in Nkanu West LGA of Enugu state.
Daily Trust recalls that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier said that pregnant women would be in a different line and be given preferential treatment during voting.
However, such preferential treatment was not given to the pregnant women apparently because things are not working accordingly in many parts of the state during the election.
But at Ojiagu in Agbani, pregnant women were seen standing in a long line with other voters.
When our reporter approached the INEC officials there, they declined to comment and referred him to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of INEC in the state.
One of the pregnant women who identified herself as Mrs. Onyinye Ejiofor said if she was not given attention to vote early enough she would leave the venue as she was not enjoying standing for a long time considering she was eight months pregnant.
Another pregnant woman who refused to give her name said she had actually asked one of her children to bring her a plastic chair but she would soon leave as the child and the plastic seat were not forthcoming.
“I can’t keep standing here till only God knows when. I will leave here soon because of my condition,” she said.
Attempts made to get the state’s INEC spokesperson, Linus Eze to comment on the matter was unsuccessful as his line was not reachable.
