Pregnant woman rescued from ‘one chance’ gang in Abuja

Operatives of the FCT police command have rescued abducted pregnant woman identified as Mrs Doris Gabriel from suspected one chance robbers at Idu in Abuja.

The FCT Police Commissioner, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, who disclosed to newsmen at the weekend, said the rescue followed a distress call about robbery operations along Idu industrial area road, which the operatives from Karimo division swiftly responded to.

He said one of the ‘one chance’ suspects identified as Ikechukwu Ngerem was apprehended at the scene and the abducted woman was rescued.

According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the pregnant woman was abducted while on her way home from Federal Medical Center, Jabi, after some gang of one chance robbers posed as commercial vehicle operators.

He said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects.

CP Disu further disclosed that two suspects were arrested by police operatives in Gwagwa village over alleged involvement in robbery and conspiracy.

He said the suspects had confessed during interrogation of their active participation in targeting residents and commuters to dispossess them of their valuables.

He said efforts were ongoing to arrest their fleeing associates, even as he said the arrested suspects, Udoka Obiyo and Moses Anogwa had both confessed to the crime.
