A 22-year old expectant mother, and a commercial motorcyclist have been crushed to death by a hit and run commuter bus driver along Ekwulobia-Isuofia road in Anambra state.
The deceased, Ifeyinwa Nwobodo, a native of Enugu state, but married from Ebonyi state, was reportedly said to be on a motorcycle when she was knocked down by a commercial bus which sped off, leaving her and the Okada rider lying lifeless by the road.
According to eye witness, "the bodies of the okada rider and the pregnant woman were left unattended to for a while until a passerby who recognised the pregnant lady stopped to recover both bodies before taking them to the hospital and morgue respectively."
Daily Trust gathered that the police and Federal Road Safety officers traced the driver of the bus with the plate number of his vehicle that fell off at the scene of the incident.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nkiruka Nwode, described it as unfortunate, saying investigations were on to ascertain the cause of the incident.
"The DPO in charge of the area had written to the Federal Road Safety Corps to find out the owner of the plate number found at the scene of the accident," she said.
While commiserating with the family of the bereaved, she Nwode cautioned motorists, pedestrians and other road users to be more careful while using the road to avoid such unfortunate incidences.
