Pregnant woman, 8 others burnt to death in Kwara

Nine persons, including a pregnant woman, have been killed in road crash on the Ilorin-Ogbomoso Expressway. City and Crine News gathered that the crash, which occurred yesterday, when a Toyota Corolla with registration number LRN787FE coming out of the Ilorin International Airport collided with a commercial Toyota Hiace heading to Lagos.

A witness told our reporter that the victims of the accident got burnt after gallons of petrol in the 18-seater bus caught fire from the impact of the crash.

A source in the state command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said the bus loaded at the Gerin Alimi Motor Park and was heading out of the metropolis when it rammed into the private vehicle.

 The FRSC source further said, “The private vehicle failed to wait for the oncoming passenger bus to pass. The vehicles collided, somersaulted before they burst into flames,” adding that, “A pregnant woman was among the victims.” 

Speaking on the incident, the state Sector Commander of the FRSC, Jonathan Owoade, said, “A total of 20 persons were involved in the accident, nine of them were killed and eight suffered burns, bruises.

“Before we got to the scene, the injured victims had been taken to the Ilorin General Hospital while the dead were deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH).”
