Practitioners missed out in medicine devt strategy – NIPRD

Director-General, National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development, Obi Adigwe, says the critical issue about medicine development in Nigeria is that practitioners, who require support in terms of investment, funding and capacity building, have been totally missed out in fine-tuned medicine development strategy.

A statement in Abuja by the institute quoted Adigwe as saying this in Osogbo, Osun State at the conference for healthy population, organised by the NIPRD.

“The second thing is that we want to build the capacity of the fine-tuned medicine practitioners themselves, we want to teach them how to harvest plants, how to document their practices, the importance of research and development in their activities, how to apply for NAFDAC list and how to partner with people in terms of bringing their products for marketing.” Adigwe said.

Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, who also spoke at the event, noted that science and research has revealed that the solution to human illnesses and ailments lies in herbs available in Nigeria and Africa at large.
