Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Engr. Saleh Dunoma said the frequent power outage at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) was due to the various construction works going on at the airport.
Daily Trust reports that the power outage has become a recurring decimal at the airport leading to temporary disruption in flight operations.
The latest happened on Wednesday night when the international wing was in darkness for about 30
Providing insight into the frequent glitches, the FAAN Chief Executive who was addressing the issue at the 5th stakeholders’ meeting convened by the Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika in Abuja said, “There is a lot of construction work going on”.
According to him, the authority had to make temporary connection because the construction work led to severing of a lot of cables.
“Therefore electricity supply became problematic around the airport”, he said.
Dunoma assured that the problem would be a thing of the past once the new terminal under construction was delivered.
The Minister also pointed out that some of the electricity cables at the airport were installed as far back as 1979, adding, “We may have to change all those cabling”.
