Postponement of Plateau LG polls laughable, unfortunate – PDP

The Plateau state chapter of Peoples Democratic Party has said the postponement of Plateau Local Government elections slated 17th February as laughable and unfortunate.

The party made the statement through its Chairman, Mr Damishi Sango during a press conference at the state party’s Secretariat in Jos on Monday.
It recalled that in a statement signed by Chairman, Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission, (PLASIEC), Mr. Fabian Ntung stated that the electoral body was forced to postponed the election due to security threats.
The party said that it finds the excuse given by the PLASIEC to postponed the election as not only laughable but unfortunate, because the Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau state boasted before the President Muhammadu Buhari that the state has been enjoying peace.
"We find it not only surprising but embrassing that PLASIEC is advancing security concern as the reason for the said postponement," it said.
The party boasted that even during Governor David Jang’s administration when the state had faced serious security challenges the state and local government elections were conducted with exception of Wase and Jos North.
It claimed that it was abundantly clear the APC administration in the state has either been feeding people with falsehood regarding the security situation in the state or an excuse just to perpetuate the illegal stay of non-elected officials at the local government level.
