Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, has described lack of policy consistency, poor funding and inadequate basic facilities as major challenges in the education sector.
He urged to declare a state of emergency on school infrastructure following the alleged failure of state governments to invest in basic education in their states.

He spoke in Abuja Wednesday at the National Education Summit organised by the Human Development Initiatives (HDI).
A former provost of Osun State College of Education, Prof. Labayo Kazeem, said governors were not concerned about investing in education.
Executive Director, HDI, Olufunsho Owasanoye, called for a review of the curriculum.
