Declaring the games open, the minister said since time constraint would not allow him deliver his full speech, he would only declare the competition open without much ado.

“To the glory of God and to the glory of athletes, I declare the competition open,” the minister, who was represented by the Zonal Director of the National Sports Commission, Alhaji Abba Yola, said.

Earlier before declaring the sporting festival open, the contingents matched pass the dignitaries, after which cultural groups of Koroso, Yoruba and Igbo displayed their choreographic skills.

The opening match between host BUK and ABU ended on a sour note for the host. The match ended in a draw despite countless deadly incursions by the BUK’s danger man Baballe which left supporters of the host school disappointed.

Soccer pundits attributed the hosts’ poor outing to lack of coordination between the defence and the midfield. They also said that had the BUK’s strikers rose to the occasion, they would have scored a number of goals.
