Polytechnic students back El-Rufai over teachers” sack

The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has thrown it’s weight behind Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai over the sack of incompetent teachers in the state.

A statement signed by the association’s president, Mohammed Eneji expressed worry over the level of rot in the educational system of the country; describing the decision of the governor to rid the system of incompetent hands as appropriate.

According to the statement, quality primary education is key to breeding refined graduates, adding that education is the passport to the future.

While he called on the state government to speedily conclude the recruitment exercise of 25,000 new teachers; he urged other states to emulate El-Rufai’s courage.

"It is pertinent that the basics of education be taken with utmost priority and seriousness but Nigeria’s educational system keep declining by the day.

"The decision taken by the governor at this critical point of educational collapse in Nigeria is appreciated and timely," the statement reads in part.

He however appealed to the Kaduna State Government to retrain and engage some of the sacked workers who are qualified to work in other government ministries or agencies in order not to further create unemployment in the state.

NAPS is the umbrella body of all Nigerian students studying in Polytechnics, Monotechnics and Colleges of Technology.
