Polymer scam: Ex-mint boss extradition hearing begins today

Daily Trust gathered yesterday that Okoyomon who is wanted by the United Kingdom government over an alleged bribery scam, has since the end of September, been in detention at the head office of the EFCC in Abuja.
An EFCC source told our correspondent that Okoyomon is alleged to have played a pivotal role in the bribery allegation that involved officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Nigeria Security, Minting and Printing Company (NSPM) and Securency International Pty Ltd of Australia between 2006 and 2008.
The extradition hearing is said to be in response to the request of the British National Crime Agency on allegations that Okoyomon facilitated the distribution of bribes and kickbacks through banks in the United Kingdom to enable Securency Pty limited produce the N20 polymer notes for the CBN.
Okoyomon if extradited may be arraigned in a United Kingdom court on money laudering charges of over N750 million said to be involved in the scam.
