Another lecturer of the Department of Mass Communication, Hassan Usman Polytechnic, Katsina, Bashir Ruwangodiya, has been reportedly held by abductors while trying to deliver ransom money for an earlier abducted colleague.
Ruwangodiya is also the chairman of the coalition of civil society organizations in the state. Kidnappers had a day earlier taken away Dr. Bello Birchi from his country home, Tashar Bara’u in Kurfi LGA and demanded ransom for his release.
Ruwangodiya, who was said to be taking an undisclosed ransom to the kidnappers after a negotiation was reached, was held back by the abductors.
“They are now equally demanding more money for the release of the two lecturers,” a source said.
The chairman of the senior staff association at the polytechnic, Comrade Mansur Garba, said the union was working to ensure their release. The state police command is yet to respond to enquiries made on the matter.
