Alhaji Abba, who is the Managing Director of Liyafa Palace Hotel, is succeeding his father, late Alhaji M.T. Usman, who died early this year.
To commemorate the turbaning ceremony, a novelty polo tournament is organised by members of Kaduna and Katsina Polo Clubs. Six teams will compete for three trophies that are up for grabs.
Among the big guns taking part in today’s polo extravaganza are Bello Buba, the highest handicap player in the country, Mohammed Babangida, patron of El-Amin polo team, Aminu Abubakar Alhaji, Ibrahim Babangida, Hayatu Abba and Mohammed Baba Kyari, Secretary of Nigeria Polo Association (NPA).
Others are Sanusi Kabir, Umar Kabir, Husaini Kabir, Lawal Mangal, Bashir Mangal, Aminu Gagare and Abdulwahab Sani Stores.
According to Mohammed Nda, who spoke for the organisers of the one-day event, the three trophies, namely, Santuraki Cup, which is a high-goal event will feature Kusada Muhammadu team against Ajiyan Katsina side.
Zannuwan Katsina Usman Cup, a trophy named after the new Santuraki’s great, grand-father, will be contested by the Tafidan Katsina and Ciroman Katsina teams, whereas the Wazirin Katsina and Durbin Katsina teams will vie for the Matawalle Umaru Cup.
The Emir of Katsina, who is also the President of Nigeria Polo Association, will be the Special Guest of Honour at the occasion.
