The National Unity Movement for Bola Ahmed Tinubu (NUMBAT) has asked all Nigerians to eschew politics of religion and ethnicity for the country to attain greatness.

The Director-General of the group and former Member of the House of Representatives, Hon Bamidele Faparusi, in a statement by the Director, Media and Publicity of the group, Chief Joseph Undu, on Monday in Abuja, said politics of religion and ethnicity portended grave danger to the future and unity of the country.

Reacting to criticisms trailing the choice of a former Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, as running mate to the presidential candidate of the APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on account of a Muslim-Muslim ticket, Faparusi urged Nigerians to embrace unity in diversity, national integration and cohesion despite their socio-economic and political differences.

He said, “Placing competence and merit above religious and ethnic considerations in choosing leaders that would steer the affairs of the nation in the right direction is what Nigerians should consider while voting in 2023.

“Even with a Muslim-Muslim ticket, without having any fear of religious domination and suppression, we are conscious of the secularity status of Nigeria, and Tinubu is best positioned to protect our secular state.

“NUMBAT, as an independent political support group, is working together with other patriotic citizens across religious and ethnic divides so as to assiduously promote national unity in diversity, national integration and cohesion despite our different religious inclinations, ethnic and political orientations.”

He appealed to Nigerians to get their PVCs and vote massively for Tinubu come 2023, saying the APC presidential candidate was the only one among the presidential candidates that could rescue the nation.
