The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar said Nigerian politicians manipulate religious leaders for their selfish interests.
Speaking at a religious summit organized by the International Dialogue Centre (KAICIID) in Abuja yesterday, the Sultan said it was imperative to change the trend for the betterment of Nigerians.
Sultan Abubakar said both Nigerian Muslims and Christians must come together to pray for the country in view of the ongoing economic and other challenges facing the country.
“We have seen crisis that some churches were given billions. We have seen scenarios where Islamic clergy were invited for a programme and given transport money by politicians. We must use our religious book to settle our differences. God almighty cannot be wrong in choosing a leader at any time. We have just started the process of fostering unity among different religions,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, the Archbishop of Abuja Catholic Diocese, John Cardinal Onaiyekan advised the Federal Government not to sell national assets to feed Nigerians.
“There must be a good reason to sell national assets. But my answer is neither yes nor no. The reason for selling national assets should not be done so as to give food to hungry people,” Onaiyekan said.
