A Former Governor of Sokoto state, Alhaji Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa has said politicians were behind the incessant killings in the country which were being attributed to herders-farmers conflicts.
In an interviews with newsmen shortly after the State PDP stakeholders meeting held at his residence in Sokoto, he said that the killings were purely political.
"Politicians are behind the killings. If you observe it critically and objectively, you will realise it is not the normal Fulani-farmers conflict. it is purely political because herdsmen are not known to be carrying dangerous and sophisticated weapons, " he stated.
Bafarawa added:"It means some politicians are using this people to achieve their selfish political goal."
Bafarawa advised President Buhari to always act on advices by eminent Nigerians not minding who was gave the advice or his party affiliation.
According to him, this was the only way to find a lasting solution to the problem.
On the recent letter written to President Buhari by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the PDP chieftain, said Obasanjo was entitled to his own opinion but advised the President to study the letter faithfully and do the needful.
On the advice that the President should not recontest in 2019, he said "this is the peroragative of the President", but that the President need to make some necessary correction to regain the support of the masses.
On the resolution reached at the stakeholders meeting that he should contest the 2019 presidential election, he said that was their option noting that contesting election required intensive consultation before one presenting himself to the party and electorates.
Bafarawa also said that things were not going rightly because the change that APC brought to Nigerians was that of hardship and hunger.
According to him, what Nigerians need was a responsible and honest leaders not PDP or APC, urging them to resort to prayers for God to provide them with one.
He however, refuted that he was defecting to another party, saying he would remain a bonafide member of PDP because of its wide spread acceptability.
