Policeman stabs colleague to death in Bayelsa

A police officer simply identified as Sergeant Akpoboloukeme, has allegedly stabbed his colleague identified as Sgt Sapele Eyerindideke, to death in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

A police officer simply identified as Sergeant Akpoboloukeme, has allegedly stabbed his colleague identified as Sgt Sapele Eyerindideke, to death in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

According to eye witness, the incident occurred on Thursday evening at Edepie axis of Yenagoa.

The cops were said to have engaged in a minor argument before Akpoboloukeme went berserk.

Daily Trust gathered that the suspect fled the scene of the incident after noticing that the man he hacked was dead.

He was later arrested at Glory Land drive, the exit route from Yenagoa.

It was gathered that the duo are cousins from Torubene community in Delta State.

According to friends of the two policemen, they attended a marriage ceremony at a popular hotel along INEC road in Yenagoa metropolis, where they had minor joke which the deceased cracked on the table they were seated.

But the killer officer who is said to be short tempered did not feel happy about the joke, which prompted him to react in a violent manner, before he finally stabbed his colleague to death.

Police spokesman in Bayelsa State, SP Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the incident, said the suspected killer has been arrested and investigation is ongoing.

He said: “An off-duty Police Officer stabbed his colleague with a Dagger to death in Yenagoa, over a minor misunderstanding.

“The incident occurred on 4th November 2021, at about 1900 hours at Edepie, Yenagoa. It was reported that Sergeant Akpoboloukeme ‘m’ stabbed his colleague, Sgt Sapele Eyerindideke ‘m’ over a minor misunderstanding. The corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.

“The accused suspect immediately fled the scene and attempted to flee to a nearby state before he was arrested at the Glory Land gate.

“The Commissioner of Police Bayelsa State Command CP Ben Okolo fdc, has ordered for the detention of the officer and a thorough investigation is underway.”
