An officer of the Nigerian Police Force was shot dead by a gang of armed robbers in Umuahia, Abia State capital, on Friday.
The robbers, who traced their victim from the Enugu- Port Hacourt Expressway to bank road in Umuahia, intercepted the Ash colour highlander jeep of the victim around 11am.

According to an eye witness, the robbers followed their target, a Chinese man, who went to the bank to withdraw some money.
The source stated that the robbers took advantage of the traffic jam along the Mission Hill area, Umuahia, to intercept the vehicle, carting away millions of naira.
He said the gunmen shot into the air to scare passers-by, before shooting the police escort of the expatriate.
The witness said the robbers sped off with the money and left the owner unhurt.
When our correspondent contacted the Police Public Relations Officer in Abia, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, he confirmed the incident, saying it was unfortunate such act happened even at a time normalcy is being restored in the state.
