Policeman rejects N.3m bribe, another returns N.6m paid into account

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, on Tuesday, commended a police officer, Sgt Yahaya Ahmed, attached to Higher Shari’ah Court, Tudun Wada Division, Gusau, Zamfara State, for rejecting N300, 000 bribe offered him by one Chukwuka Jude.

Jude, who was arrested at the same court on January 18 over false presentation and cheating by impersonation, offered the bride to the officer, but the latter rejected it.

The IGP also said he was proud of another officer, Sgt Sampson Ekikere, attached to 22 Police Mobile Force, Ikeja, Lagos State, who recovered a wallet belonging to one Mr Lukman Abaja and traced the owner to deliver the found item.

Baba, according to a statement by the acting Force spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said he was amazed by the officer’s uncommon professionalism exhibited on March 19 when he recovered the wallet.

He also lauded Head of Operations at the Police Radio, Elemide Akinkunmi, a Chief Superintendent of Police, who was mistakenly credited with N600,000 in his police account.

He said the officer withdrew the sum and remitted it back to the Nigeria Police Cooperative Society treasury, showing attributes of an “honest and trustworthy police officer,”
