A police man on routine patrol has shot dead a 65-year-old woman in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.
Eye witnesses reported that residents had demanded an explanation from a patrol team that arrested a young man outside his house at Doubeli in Yola and in the course of altercation, one of the police men fired several shots, hitting two persons in the process.
The bullets reportedly killed a 65-year-old grand mother identified as Yerbure and injured a young man, thereby sparking protest in the densely populated area.
The remains of the deceased woman have been deposited at the Yola Specialists Hospital while the injured is receiving treatment at the hospital.
In a press release issued by the Adamawa police command on Friday, the police commissioner, Afolabi Babatola, sympathized with the family of the deceased woman, saying the command had arrested the police sergeant identified as Aliyu Yusuf.
