Policeman killed as gunmen attack Abuja hotel

A policeman was shot dead and a civilian injured after gunmen numbering about 15 attacked a hotel in Tungan-Maje, an FCT suburb.

A resident who simply gave his name as Yunusa, said the gunmen went into the hotel on the edge of the town around 10pm on Tuesday.

He said a team of policemen who was alerted about the development stormed the hotel and engaged the gunmen in a gun battle in which a policemen was killed and a second person, a civilian, was injured.

City News reports that the incident was the second time the said hotel was coming under attack by gunmen; as a similar incident happened in June this year, where nine people, including the hotel’s owner, staff and guests were abducted.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, DSP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident, saying the killed policeman was a sergeant.
