Policeman attached to Pantami escapes from kidnappers

A policeman (name withheld) attached to the security team of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami, has escaped from his abductors.

The policeman, who hails from Nasarawa State, was travelling from Doma to Abuja during the weekend when he was abducted at Ikari, a village under Gudi in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

A witness said the incident happened around 8:00 pm when armed men blocked the road, robbed some travellers and abducted four people, including the policeman who was in mufti.

He said policemen were mobilised to the scene, and while making enquiries, the abducted policeman came out from the bush with blood on his forehead.

The witness said the man, who identified himself as a policeman, told the policemen that he overpowered one of the kidnappers and escaped from their den.

He said as he started running, one of them threw cutlass that hit and wounded him on his forehead, but that he did not stop until he reached the safe location.

When contacted, a source in the ministry confirmed the incident.

The spokesperson of the Police Command in Nasarawa, ASP Ramhan Nansel, said they were investigating the incident.
