Policeman allegedly kills young man in Ogun

A policeman attached to the Zonal Intervention Squad of Zone 2 Police Command in Ogun state on Sunday reportedly shot dead a resident of Ifo town in Ifo local government area of the state.

The yet-to-be-identified Police officer was said to have killed the young man in an ensuing disagreement.

A witness said the policeman opened fire on the residents, killing the victim instantly while others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Daily Trust gathered that the development touched the residents’ nerves who stormed the streets in protest against the heinous act.

The aggrieved residents also reportedly blocked the Lagos – Abeokuta expressway and burnt tyres to stop movement of vehicles on both sides of the road.

The clash which started at about 5:30pm on Sunday was yet to be resolved as motorists and some residents are stranded.

When contacted, the state Police Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.

Oyeyemi hinted that he had not been briefed with details of the incident, adding that the officer was attached to the Zonal Intervention Squad.
