The incident sparked wide outcry and condemnation when the minor was later found to have been brutally raped after she was examined at the Barau Dikko Hospital, Kaduna.
However Daily Trust gathered from police sources that lack of cooperation from residents of Sabon Layi was hindering police investigation into the matter one week after the incident.
Police Public Relations Officer in Kaduna, ASP Mohammed Jalige, confirmed the development saying though the Commissioner of Police, Umar Muri, has been mounting pressure on those in charge of the investigation for a thorough job and apprehension of the culprit, the police were not getting the needed cooperation from the community.
ASP Jalige said, “The challenge is that the people in the community are not assisting the police with information because this thing happened in the afternoon and the Mosque is in an open place and in a busy area. If the people have been cooperating, the investigation would have yielded results by now.”
He, however, said despite the challenge, the police were doing their best including going undercover to get information and fish out the perpetrators of the act.
When contacted, the Village Head of Sabon Layi, Sarki Abdullahi Rabo, told our correspondent that the community have cooperated with the police and would continue to do so to ensure that the murderer was apprehended.
