Inspector-General of Police Solomon Arase warned the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) yesterday to discontinue its planned protest. The police said in a statement that the IPOB plans to embark on ill-advised protest using dangerous weapons across some South-eastern states.
Police spokesperson, ‎ACP Olabisi Kolawole reminded masterminds of the planned protest that the law prohibiting the unlawful possession of firearms was still in force. She added that any attempt to unleash mayhem on innocent and law abiding Nigerians under any guise by the group would be met with stiff resistance by the police and other security agencies, stressing that the actors would be brought to justice in line with extant criminal laws.
“Citizens in the South-eastern states are hereby assured of adequate protection, as appropriate police deployment has been emplaced to deal decisively with any group or persons who might be bent on breaching public peace and threatening national security,” the statement noted.
