Police warns Benue people against thuggery, vote buying

The Police in Benue State on Friday warned residents in all parts of the state to desist from thuggery, vote buying/selling and other forms of social ills capable of disrupting peaceful coexistence as the 2019 elections draws closer.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Benue Command, DSP. Moses Joel Yamu, handed the warning in a statement made available to Daily Trust in Makurdi.

Yamu stated the command’s readiness to provide adequate security before, during and after the general elections, which campaigns are set to commence on the 18th November 18.

He disclosed that the command in collaboration with sister security agencies would ensure a hitch free elections from campaigns to the election proper expected to hold next year.

“The Benue State Commissioner of Police, CP. Ene Okon, therefore, warns the general public that all forms of thuggery, hooliganism, destruction of Campaign billboards/banners/posters, vote buying/selling, Permanent Voters Card (PVC) buying/selling and for security purpose, unapproved political rallies/gatherings/processions would not be tolerated in the interest of fairness, justice and peaceful coexistence,” he stated.

The PPRO added that any political party or party flagbearer who has intention to stage any political rally/procession/gathering should as a matter of importance and security concern, apply for clearance to the commissioner of police at least 48hrs before the schedule time of the event.

Yamu in the statement further appealed to the general public not to take laws into their hands this electioneering campaigns period and should not hesitate to report any suspicious persons or actions to the nearest police station
