The Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command, Deputy Commissioner of Police Tunji Disu, has warned members of the public to be wary of syndicates masquerading as domestic staff.
Disu disclosed there were some criminals posing as domestic staff with specialisation in kidnapping children.
Explaining that the syndicate members had been pasting their contacts on the public space seeking for potential employers, he warned residents of the state to be meticulous in employing their domestic staff.
The RRS Commander gave the warning yesterday at a virtual public relations discourse on ‘Effective Personal Security’ organized by the Lagos State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).
Disu advised residents to always check the data of anyone to be employed as domestic staff, saying the data could be taken to the state Criminal Investigation Department of the police or any other security agency for proper background checks.
He added that residents should always insist on a reliable surety for anyone to be employed either as a driver or a housemaid.
He informed there were some foreigners from neighbouring countries who had relocated to Lagos to make brisk business and return to their countries and could defraud or even harm their employers and bolt back to their countries.
