The third edition of the security agencies football tournament kicked off in Abeokuta, Ogun State, with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) team defeating the Department of State Services (DSS) counterparts 4 goals to nil.

Daily Trust reports that at least 11 security agencies in Ogun State are participating in the football tournament organised by the state branch of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).

The registered security agencies for the competition are the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Police, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, NSCDC, So Safe Corp, Amotekun, Forestry Guard, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Correction Service, DSS and Nigeria Fire Service.

Football teams of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) had the first encounter of the competition at the main bowl of the MKO International Stadium in Abeokuta yesterday.

The game ended in favour of the Customs team 3 goals to zero.

In the second encounter, the Police team walloped the DSS team, 4:0, despite wasting many clear chances including a penalty shoot-out.

In the third game of the day, the TRACE teams narrowly secured victory 3:2 in a tough encounter with the Forest Guard team.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Pelican Valley Nigeria Limited, Dr Tunde Adeyemo performed the ceremonial kick off of the competition.

Adeyemo, a journalist turned realtor, noted that the competition would create harmonious relationships between the security agencies in the state.

“This competition will enhance peaceful co-existence of the agencies, which will in the long run enhance their delivery and their physical wellbeing.

“When the agencies share love among themselves, they can enforce law and peaceful co-existence among Nigerians,” Adeyemo said.
