Police, vigilante battle kidnappers, rescue 8 victims in FCT

Eight abducted victims were rescued after a combined team of the police and vigilantes engaged kidnappers in gun duel at Kwaita village in Kwali area council of the FCT.

City & Crime reports that Kwaita, which is predominantly resident by Hausa dry season farmers, is located on the Abuja-Lokoja highway.

A resident of Kwaita, Dangana Zubairu, said the incident happened around 11:23 pm on Sunday, when the kidnappers wielding AK-47 rifles invaded three houses and whisked away nine residents.

He said the kidnappers started shotting sporadically into the air in order to escape with the victims but that he police and vigilantes engaged them.

He said the kidnappers later escaped with one person identified as Awwal Suleiman.

Our reporter reliably gathered that a business man identified as Shuaibu Saleh, was reportedly abducted at the community two months ago and he was released after N5 million ransom was allegedly paid to his abductors before he was released.

There was no official response from the spokeswoman of the FCT police command, SP Adeh Josephine, over the latest kidnap incident as at the time of filling the report.
