Police try officer in Kwara for assaulting traders

A police officer attached to the Anti Robbery team of the Kwara State Command, Inspector Aigbobahi Ogbemudia, is undergoing an orderly room trial ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Tuesday Assayomo.
The officer was caught in a viral video assaulting one Adeleke Ridwan, 22, and his elder brother, Habeeb, both clothes sellers at Challenge Area of Ilorin.
The victims were accosted by the team for a routine check but were  manhandled and slapped by Ogbemudia.
Speaking on the incident, the police spokesperson, Ajayi Okasanmi, said, “He (Ogbemudia) has no right to hit or assault any citizen, regardless of his status, even as a suspect under investigation.
“For the single reason of lack of discretion on the part of members of the police team, the CP, Tuesday Assayomo has directed the erring policemen, who have been arrested and identified by the victims be detained and departmental orderly room trial commenced immediately.”
He added that apropriate punishment would be apportioned accordingly to serve as a deterrent to others.
The latest incident is coming less than a week after the CP redeployed 26 officers of the command over extortion of students in the state.
