“The guidelines on promotion issued by the Commission are currently being reviewed to bring them in conformity with extant rules and regulations as well as to reflect the approved recommendations of the Government White Paper on the report of the Presidential Committee on the Reform of the Nigeria Police Force. The Commission will issue new guidelines on promotions on completion of the on-going review exercise,” she said.
The Commission also distanced itself from a media report which said a new guideline for promotion of policemen which stop rank and files above the age of 40 from getting promotion beyond the rank of inspector.
“The attention of the Commission has been drawn to newspaper publications on an alleged anxiety in the Nigeria Police Force over new promotion Policy. According to the publications, anxiety is said to have heightened in the Police over the implementation of a new promotion policy that bars the rank and file who are 40 years old and above from being promoted beyond the rank of Inspector. Members of the Force are advised to ignore the report as any review of the promotion guidelines will be done in the general interest of the Force,” Emurem said.
