Police return N5m to robbery victim in Plateau

The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Bartholomew Onyeka, has returned N5,927,120 to the family of one Mr John Okeke of No 74B, Rukuba Road, Bassa LGA.

City & Crime learnt that Mr Okeke and other passengers were on May 22, 2022, robbed on the Fuskan-Mama-Jengre road in the LGA, where most of the victims ran into the bush and left their property.

The police reportedly moved swiftly to the scene to rescue the victims and recover their property.

According to the commissioner, the amount was among the property recovered from the scene of the robbery, adding that after investigation, it was found that the money belonged to Mr Okeke.

He explained, “While the incident was going on, a distress call was received by the Jengre Divisional Police Headquarters that a robbery was taking place on the road and the DPO, SP Alobo E. John, swiftly mobilised his team to the scene. He was able to rescue the victims, clear the road and restore normalcy to the area.

“The police officers rushed one of the victims, identified as Mrs Laraba Ibrahim, to the Plateau Specialist Hospital Jos, where the doctor confirmed her dead on arrival. This was as a result of a gunshot wound she sustained during the attack by the hoodlums.”
