Police rescue 7 kidnap victims, recover AK-47 rifle, magazines in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police commissioner, CP Sunday Babaji, has said seven kidnapping victims have been rescued and an AK-47 rifle recovered at Pegi axis of Abuja.

CP Babaji, who disclosed this to newsmen at the command headquarters in Abuja, yesterday, said one of the kidnappers was shot dead during a shootout between his men and the kidnappers.

He also said 15 AK-47 magazines, fake army camouflage uniforms, six mobile phones, hard drugs, charms and N47,000 cash were recovered by the police team from the kidnappers.

He said the command’s anti-kidnapping unit in a joint operation with the DSS and police operatives from Pegi division, raided the hideout of the suspected kidnappers.

“Upon sighting the security operatives, the kidnappers engaged them in a gun battle but with superior gunfire of the security team, one of the suspected kidnappers who had been on the wanted list of the command for his kidnapping activities, Umar Bappa aka Maishede Blackie, was killed while others escaped into the forest with gunshot wounds,” he said.

Babaji said the rescued victims were taken to hospital.
