The Police in Kano have rescued 47 people from an illegal rehabilitation center in ’Yar Akwa, Tarauni Local Government area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa Sa’id, the victims, all males between the ages of 12- 30, were rescued on Thursday.
He said they were taken to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, for medical treatment due to their critical health conditions.
According to him, “They are looking emaciated with various injuries due to beating and torture by the operators of the rehab centre.”
The PPRO also said their operatives arrested two of the operators of the centre.
He said they will be prosecuted upon conclusion of investigation on the issue.
According to him, the suspects who confessed to have been operating the centre close to a year despite ban by the state government, have been asking for forgiveness.
Daily Trust reports that Kano State Government had in November, 2019 banned operations of illegal rehabilitation centres in the state.
