Six suspected kidnappers have been killed by men of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Ogun State during a gun duel while two medical doctors abducted by the kidnappers were rescued.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ilyasu confirmed this while displaying corpses of the bandits to journalists at the forest located at Deyeruwa village in Remo North local government area of the state.
The hideout of the kidnappers is about one kilometre to the busy Lagos-Ibadan Express and report has it that the gang sacked the villagers, set ablaze the mud buildings, and later converted them to cells, where they kept their victims
Ilyasu who led journalists in company of Head of operations of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, FSARS,Adams Uba late Tuesday said the notorious gang always target motorists on the highway, and after kidnapping them, forced them into the forest, and subsequently contact their family for ransom.
He said police had been on their trail for some months, and after discovery of the hideout through intelligence tactics, the authorities stormed the forest to engage the bandit.
“Our men stormed the forest on Tuesday and after the bandits engaged our men in a shootout, six of them were shot dead, having wounded two of our men, who are responding to treatment. The last two victims of the gang were two medical doctors, who were rescued unhurt,” Illiyasu said.
Exhibits recovered from the gang in the hideout include, locally made pistol, dane gun, charms, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons just as the commissioner ordered the pulling down of the dilapidated buildings in the forest.
