Police repel bandits, rescue 13 abductees in Niger

…Arrest siblings over bizman’s death

The police in Niger State have repelled bandits and rescued 13 abductees in Galiwi village via Sarkin-Pawa in Munya LGA of Niger State.

The state’s police spokesman, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, said in a release he sent to our correspondent, that terrorists wanted to launch attack on the community on Wednesday but that the police repelled them.

According to him, “On 20/04/2022 at about 1300hrs, armed bandits attacked Galiwi village via Sarkin-Pawa in Munya LGA and kidnapped some farmers who were working on their farms numbering about 13.

“The police tactical team attached to Sarkin-Pawa division was immediately mobilised to the area where the bandits were engaged in a gun battle and were repelled. The victims were abandoned by the hoodlums and they were immediately rescued unhurt as the bandits fled into the forest.”

Abiodun further said the victims were first taken to a hospital and had been reunited with their families.

In another development, the police apprehended a 25-year-old man, Bashir Ibrahim, who killed his friend, Hassan Shehu, a businessman, and absconded with his N3.5m and car.

The state’s police spokesman, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, said the suspect was arrested alongside his 22-year- old brother, Aliyu Ibrahim, who assisted him in committing the crime.
