Police recruitment: Plateau lawmaker protests rejection of Hausa, Fulani candidates from Jos North

A member of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Adamu Aliyu, has protested against the rejection of candidates of Hausa and Fulani origin from Jos North Local Government Area in the ongoing police recruitment exercise at the state police command.

Hon. Aliyu made the protest at the office of the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state police command following reports by some of the candidates from his constituency that they had been rejected by some screening officers.

Speaking to journalists at the police headquarters where he went to report the matter, the lawmaker described the situation as a “deliberate discrimination and denial of fundamental rights of his people.”

“I am appealing to the Police Service Commission to do all that is lawfully necessary in ensuring that my people are not shortchanged. I am calling on the police service commission to intervene. It is unfair to begin to see this kind of discrimination in FG’s recruitment,” he said.

The police spokesman, DSP Alfred Alabo, did not respond to inquiries by our correspondent as at the time of filing this report.
