City News gathered from police sources that the vehicle, a Honda Pilot SUV with registration number GWA 864 AH, was stolen while the robbers were on rampage along the said road.
Police sources further said that immediately the vehicle was snatched, the victim reported at the Gwagwa police station and a surveillance team was put on look out.
“The FCT patrol and the surveillance team chased the hoodlums sighted with the vehicle. The robbers abandoned the vehicle and took to their heels. They ran into the bush and the policemen extended their search for the hoodlums into the bush but they were unable to apprehend them,” the source said.
When the FCT police spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent Hyelhira Altine Daniel was contacted, she confirmed the arrest and stated that the vehicle belonged to a man at Gwaiba Village in Gwagwa.
“The man told us that while he was on his way to Gwaiba, three sophisticated armed men accosted him with a locally made pistol and collected the car from him. He informed us that they threatened to blow off his brain if he does not surrender the car and that he immediately handed the vehicle to the robbers,” she stated.
The police PPRO also said that the police was able to recover the vehicle because the victim contacted the police as soon as the incident occurred.
She enjoined residents to install tracking devices in their vehicles and promptly report such incidences to the police.
