The Nasarawa State Police command has recovered seven children and arrested one Grace Etim suspected of being in the business of selling of stolen children in Masaka area of Karu LGA of the state.
The command spokesman, DSP Idrisu Kennedy, who disclosed this yesterday to newsmen in Lafia, said, “On 16th January, 2018 one Mr Daniel Abu of Jama’a, in Keffi town came to Keffi police station and lodged a complaint of the disappearance of his three-year-old son, named Destiny Daniel, on the 15th January, 2018.”
He said, “Investigation into the complaint by detectives of the division led to the arrest of one Anthony Jatau of the same address. On interrogation the suspect confessed to have stolen the child and sold him to a woman in Masaka, in Karu Local Government Area.
“When he led detectives to his accomplice in Masaka, one Mrs Grace Etim was arrested and the child recovered from her. Also recovered in her custody were six other children suspected to be stolen.”
“The State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) Lafia, has taken over the investigation with the aim of unravelling if the suspects belong to any syndicate that specializes in child theft and trafficking around Karu Local Government Area of the state. This became necessary following the spate of complaints by parents and guardians on the disappearance of their wards,” he added.
He noted that the command is “warning parents and guardians in the state against abdicating their responsibilities of care and custody to avert criminally minded persons taking advantage of their vulnerability”.
