Police raid strange sect’s enclave

A witness told Daily Trust yesterday that a police squad stormed the house on Saturday after a tip-off and arrested some men belonging to a sect similar to the Maitatsine group which eradicated by security forces in the 80s. The source said food items, livestock and household utensils were found in the house.
Several underground tunnels linked to a well in the house were searched and one assault rifle and other forms of weapons were recovered.
“Two boys found chained in a cell in the house were freed. There was a detention center in the house where offenders are kept”, he said.
Police did not meet violent resistance from the sect members during the arrest, the source said. The sect members are being detained by the police who were not successfully reached before filing this report yesterday.
