Police raid Lagos hemp spots, seize 18 sacks of suspected weeds

Police detectives from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos Command have carried out simultaneous raids on some Indian hemp smoking joints within the metropolis.
At the end of the exercise, four narcotic peddlers were arrested at Oyingbo area of the state, while 18 sacks of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered from the criminals’ hideouts.
Daily Trust reliably learnt that the detectives got a tip off from Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and acted accordingly.
A source at the command said following the tip off, policemen attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the State Police Command stormed the places and arrested the suspects.
Those arrested, according to the police, are one Qadri Jimoh, 23, Tajudeen Busari, 33, Ukowa Udomma, 34, and Yakubu Mudashiru, 30, and the alleged leader of the gang, one Olumide a.k.a Aroso.
But one of the suspects, Quadri Jimoh, who lives on 15, Atitebi Street, Oyingbo, said he was on his way to buy medications for his pregnant wife when he was picked up by the police.
“I am a bus conductor. My wife, who is six months pregnant called me to buy some prescribed medications for her. And on my way  to the pharmacy, I saw people running helter-skelter and I also ran with them. But unfortunately for me, I was caught by the policemen,” the suspect explained.
The RRS Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Olatunji Disu, while confirming the raid and the arrests, advised the general public to always furnish the police with timely and effective information.
The suspects have been transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further interrogation.
