The Police in Benue State have arrested five suspected cultists after raids on drinking joints in Gboko Local Government Area of the state.
Spokesperson of the police in Benue Command, DSP Catherine Anene, said on Monday that the raid was in furtherance of a crackdown against suspected cult members in the area.
Anene confirmed the arrest of some people during the operation which was still going on within alleged criminal hideouts and various drinking joints among others in Gboko.
She however noted that after thorough screenings of those arrested, at least five of them would soon be charged to court on completion of the investigation.
Our correspondent reports that at least, five people were killed in two separate incidences involving a rivalry cult clash last week, a development that necessitated the crackdown on the suspects.
It would be recalled that four of the deceased were hacked down in Gboko town of Gboko LGA while the remaining one, which brought the number of deaths to five, was killed at the North bank suburb of Makurdi, the state capital.
