The Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State, Mr. Philip Maku, has ordered a full scale investigation into the fire outbreak, which occurred on New Year day at Akaeze in Ivo Local Government Area of the state.
The police spokesperson in the state, Mrs. Loveth Odah, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on Sunday in Abakaliki on the fire incident.

The fire incident, Daily Trust gathered, left no fewer than five persons, including a three-year-old baby, dead. Residents alleged that the fire was caused by local cannon, which was fired during the crossover night celebration in the area.
“The commissioner of police has ordered a discreet investigation into the incident to ascertain the actual cause of the fire outbreak.
“We do not believe that someone can fire cannon all in the name of celebrating the New Year, because even during traditional burials, we normally approve before cannons can be used,” Odah said.
