The Bayelsa State Police Command has paraded a 27-year-old murder suspect, Joseph Ekala, who strangled his girlfriend, Kate Ugu, to death and buried her in a shallow grave in his apartment in Okaka, a suburb of Yenagoa, the state capital.
Thirteen other criminal suspects were paraded for committing various crimes, including kidnapping, sea piracy, robbery and cult activities.
Briefing newsmen at the command’s headquarters yesterday, its spokesman, SP Asmin Butswat, said from investigation the murder was linked to a certain amount of money the suspect owed the deceased.
He said, “One of the most disturbing reports received over the weekend was a case of murder involving a young man and a lady of 25 years.
“Precisely, on Friday, July 29, 2022, we received a disturbing report from Okaka community that a young man named Joseph Ekala (27) strangled to death one Kate Ugu (25) and buried her in a shallow grave in his apartment.
“Our operatives were moblised to the scene with the help of medical experts, the corpse was exhumed and deposited at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yeanagoa, for autopsy.”
