Police parade 96 phone snatchers, drug dealers in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has paraded 96 suspected criminals arrested for various offences including phone snatching, robbery, fraud and drugs within the last 12 days across the state.

The Commissioner of Police (CP), Muhammed Usaini Gumel, disclosed this to newsmen while parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Bompai, Kano.

The CP noted that top among the crimes bedevilling the state was the phone snatching which had become a topic of discussion, saying that they were doing everything possible to address the menace.

He said, “So far a total of 96 suspects were arrested for offences ranging from drugs and substance abuse that form the motivating factor for violent crimes in the state such as mobile phone robbery, kidnapping, armed robbery to theft of motor vehicles.

“Among the suspects arrested are 52 phone snatchers, six drug dealers and 38 people for other major crimes.”

He added that among the items recovered were three locally made guns, four motor vehicles, two tricycles, six motorcycles, power cable, plasma TV and so on.

He, therefore, urged the public to support their effort in ensuring a crime-free state and also to have a free swearing in ceremony of a new government on May 29.

During the press conference, the CP handed over the six drug suspects to the state’s command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
