Police officer, father in court over assault

A Police officer, DSP Ibrahim Kawu and his father, Audu Kawu, an ex-customs officer, have been dragged to an Oyo State High Court by one Elder Olusegun Otolorin over assault.

The claimant through his counsel, Omobolaji Babadiya informed the court that the defendants and their thugs allegedly brutalized, humiliated and inflicted injury on him and his friends over a landed property.

Otolorin further said that the defendants and their thugs violently attacked him with an iron rod, stick and stabbed him with broken bottles.

He said that he would have been lynched to death if not for the protection given to him by the men of Nigerian police force from Akobo, Police Station.

Otolorin said that the incident happened on March 26, 2014 at Kilometers 147, along Iwo road , Ojoo Expressway,  Alagbayun area of Ibadan.

The claimant, urged the court to declared the action of the defendants as wrongful, illegal, unconstitutional and a violation of his client’s right.

Babadiya urged the court to award a sum of N50 million as damage in favour of his client against the defendants.

At the resume hearing of the case yesterday, the defendant’ s witness, Kawu, an ex-customs officer, adopted his statement of defence.

Justice Ganiyu Sumonu has adjourned the case till November 6 for further hearing.
