Police nab two suspected vote buyers in Calabar

Officers of the Nigerian police, at the Calabar airport division, have arrested two young men at a polling unit, who were allegedly paying voters to sway them from voting their choices.

The officers refused to speak to journalists and did not also allow pictures of the suspects to be taken.

They had dragged the duo, who were suspected to be agents for the state ruling party, into their office.

Attempts by reporters to speak to the suspects met a brick wall as the policemen had blocked them.

Findings at the polling unit from electoral officers and other agents also confirmed that the duo were seen with money.

Mr Eyo Ekpo, SDP governorship candidate in the state, had earlier decried vote buying and massive exchange of money at his polling unit.

He said such illegal activity was going on at many polling units across the state.
