The Imo State police command has nabbed a three-member armed robbery gang that specialises in robbing petrol stations and snatching cars around Ahiazu Mbaise/Obowo/Etiti and environs.
The arrest followed the renewed onslaught and adoption of new strategies by the police to stem the tide of crime and criminality in the state.
The suspects are Chibuike Oko (27), who hails from Ngodo Afikpo North of Ebonyi State; Uchenna Kalu (32) from Igbere Bende in Abia State and Ifeanyi Emenike (28) a native of Umuobutu Umuahia South of Abia State.
A statement by the spokesman of the Imo State police command, DSP Andrew Enwerem, said luck ran out on the trio while trying to escape after a robbery incident.
He said a victim from Ahiazu Mbaise was robbed at gun point of his Toyota Avalon saloon car at MM Maris Petrol Station Aguneze in Ahiazu Mbaise.
As soon as the command was alerted of the robbery case, they swung into action and laid siege at the exit routes, the statement said.
Enwerem said the suspects, who were arrested with the stolen vehicle at Obowo Malasia market en route Umuahia, Abia State, have been identified by the owner of the Toyota Avalon and have made useful statements, confessing to the crime.
Items recovered from them include cash sum of N282, 000, and arms and ammunition.
